Having a puncture in your tyre can be incredibly annoying, frustrating and always seem to happen at the wrong time. However, it isn’t always necessary to buy a new tyre if your tyre has a puncture. As long as your tyre is still fit for purpose, to the British Standard – BSAU159f:1990, you’ll be able to get your tyre fixed and get back on the road in no time. Generally, most punctures can be repaired, providing the tyre passes the minimum standards. Can my tyre be repaired?

Sometimes, repairing a punctured tyre can the most cost effective than replacing it. However, not all tyres can be repaired. Tyres are covered under British Standard BSAU159f:1990. This standard sets out what kind of tyre damage can not be repaired:

  • An illegal tread depth (the minimum is 1.6mm)
  • Run flat damage
  • An ageing
  • Bead or deteriorated tyre rubber
  • Exposed cords
  • Faulty or poor previous repairs
